Why is an opal glass fish plate safer than ceramic for serving fish?
Ceramic fish plates use a glaze over porous clay. If the glaze cracks, lead or cadmium in decorative glazes can leach into acidic foods like lemon-dressed fish. Our opal glass oval fish plate has no glaze—it is one solid glass body. Heavy metals are never added to the formula, so there is nothing to leach regardless of food type or temperature.
It passes FDA (USA), EU 1935/2004 (Europe), LFGB (Germany), and GB 4806.5 (China) migration testing. These confirm zero detectable lead and cadmium transfer. For importers, “no heavy metals in the formula” is a stronger compliance claim than “below detection limit” in procurement and retail documentation.
Yes. The plate is tempered during production, giving it thermal shock resistance for normal kitchen use. You can move it from a refrigerator to a warm serving table safely. It holds hot steamed fish, baked fillets, and heated sauces without fracture. The non-porous surface also resists staining and odor absorption from spiced seafood.
The milky white jade tone comes from fluoride and phosphate opacifiers bonded into the glass at over 1500°C. It is part of the material itself—not a coating or paint. It cannot chip, peel, or fade. No lead or cadmium colorants are used at any stage, unlike some colored ceramic glazes that rely on metal-oxide pigments.
